Derrick [more info]

Update: Oct 2013 Yes, Derrick is still available for adoption. He has been in our program for 3 years now and we haven't found the right match for him. He had an incident where he almost nipped someone. It was not his fault. It would be nice to see him in a home of his own but he is safe in his foster home and can remain there forever if needed. 7/14/10 Derrick is approximately 6 years old Dalmatian/pointer mix who was found as a stray. Derrick is a sweetheart, loves everyone and just loves to cuddle up for a relaxing night on the couch. Derrick is housebroken and will wine when he wants to go outside to potty. Derrick doesn't bother anything in the house and is just a good all around boy. Derrick is a good watch dog and will bark when he sees activity outside the house, he gets very excited and paces and wines in the car when going for rides and walks but if given time to add these activities to his routine hopefully he will become very familiar with them and he will learn to curve his excitement. He has free run inside his foster home and does not touch anything. He is an easy dog to love. Derrick is being fostered in DE. Darla [more info]

7/1/14 Darla is a 3 year old female Dal/lab mix, she is up to date on all vaccinations, spayed and housetrained. Darla is a little shy at first, she is a happy girl gets along well with other dogs and has a very sweet disposition, she just loves to give kisses and cuddle on lap for hugs and kisses. Darla came into rescue very emaciated and we had a very difficult time getting her to eat, we had her to the vet right away and stool sample revealed she had a couple of parasites and worms which caused her to feel sick to her stomach and unable to eat, once we treated her she started to eat like a champ and gained the much needed weight. When Darla first came she would stretch out her back legs and hold that position for minutes we thought she had a hip problems now that she is on a healthy diet and free of worms we now know it was a lack of nutrition causing the back leg problems. Darla now loves to chase the squirrels on the overhead power lines, so she will require a 6 foot fence, she can actually jump in the air on all 4 parallel to the top of the 6 foot fence, her back reaches the top of the fence it's the funniest thing I've ever seen, she would make a good agility dog, unsure of cats as I have none and small children. Any questions please call 302-633-1014 if you would love to open your home to this sweet girl please please visit our website at www.whdr.org and fill out an online questionnaire. For more information please fill out our online questionnaire at: http://www.whdr.org/feedback.html

Angela [more info]

May 2013 This is dear sweet Angela! She is 1 year old little girl who almost lost her life. You see Angela was surrendered into a kill shelter in the south. She also had her precious little babies with her when she was dumped. The puppies were older and did not look pitty at all. Another rescue came in and took the pups but left Angela to die. It's such a hard thing to take. How can anyone take her precious pups and leave their mom to die by carbon monoxide! It's unthinkable right? But it does happen!! When we got the urgent message that Angela was on her last night of life and was told how fabulous she was we had to save. her. On top of all the heartache of having her puppies taken away from her and sitting alone in a cold damp cell Angela had an embedded Collar and was emaciated! We had her pulled and placed in a boarding facility until we could arrange transport. She has been spayed and has been heart worm / Lyme checked and is negative for both. She does still have a scar from the collar and probably always will. This little girl is fantastic with all she has been through!!! She gets along great with all the other dogs in her foster home. She adores people of all ages!!! She is crate trained and housebroken as well. She is one of those girls that will just melt into your home! I know that she is a pit and most people will pass her up because of her breed! But this girl is fantastic!! I can not say enough about her!! She is gorgeous as well!! Stunning eyes on her!! Please call her foster mom if you should have any questions on her. Please fill out our on-line application at www.whdr.org if you would like to make Angela's day and adopt her into a great family!!! Truly an amazing gal!! For more information please fill out our online questionnaire at: http://www.whdr.org/feedback.html

Sweet Pea [more info]

Oct 2013 Sweetpea is still available for adoption. She is now completely housebroken and crate trained. She is blossoming in her foster home and will make someone a great companion. She has been diagnosed with PRA and will eventually go completely blind but that won't stop her from enjoying life. She has a lot of love to share with a human. Sweet Pea is a 9month old female dal/lab? mix. Picked up as a stray and found herself in a high kill shelter in the South. SP was pulled and escaped being PTS by hours. SP is crated trained, potty trained and spayed. SP is blind although see shadows during the day and navigates well. At night time she needs a little more guidance. WHDR recommends SP to be an only dog household. She is good with people and should be in a house with older children. She is food aggressive with other animals. We believe out of her insecurities with her sight. This cute girl is going to need someone that is willing to work with her and build her back up esteem back up. Sweet Pea is now ready to be adopted. Consider opening your home up to this beautiful girl. If interested fill out an application at www.WHDR.org For more information please fill out our online questionnaire at: http://www.whdr.org/feedback.html

Dolly [more info]

7/13/14 (photo update 9/1/14) Dolly is a 3 year old female Dal Mix, up to date on all shots, spayed, crate trained, housebroken. Dolly is a very sweet and loving girl, she came into rescue as an afterthought, a volunteer went down south to rescue several other dogs and on the way down WHDR received a phone call from the shelter asking if we could also take Dolly. Seems Dolly was in a terrible situation, tied up to a porch with the dirt ground as her bed, at first when putting her into the van she was scared to death but warmed up very quickly squishing her body up to the front of the crate seeking human contact, all she wanted was someone to love; Dolly is very active and loves to play, she's always the first one to go and meet a new dogs, when coming into rescue that was the opposite she was scared of new dogs and would shy away until she became comfortable. Dolly is the biggest smiler that I’ve ever seen and her whole body gets into the action wiggling all over; when over my home for a visit my mom asked "why is she showing her teeth" I said that's a smile, you can tell there's nothing other than a smile going on as the whole body is wiggling with happiness along with the smile. If interested in seeing a smiling dog google smiling Dalmatian and you will see a video links for a smiling dog. Dolly is a good girl she doesn’t disturb anything in the house and never chews up her blankets in her crate. Dolly does love to chase squirrels that run along the above electric lines so a 6 foot fenced yard is a must, don't know how she is with cats so I would prefer no cats as I have no way to know how she is as I have none. When Dolly is done chasing squirrels she would love a lap to lay and cuddle with as she loves to be petted, hug and kiss. More information on Dolly call 302-633-1014 If interested in giving this sweet dog a warm lap to cuddle on please go to our website at www.whdr.org and fill out an online questionnaire.
